Ios, also named Niò by its inhabitants, is a southern island of the Cyclades, touched by the Aegean Sea. Perched on top of the island hills is its main village, the Chora. Inaccessible to cars, its narrow paths and white little houses make it a very picturesque site to visit. Ios has over 50 beaches, someeasily accessible by car and other by trail. To name but a few, Yalos, Mylopotas, Manganari ans Agia Theodoti are all equally beautiful. However Ios is famous for it big number of golden beaches that can be reached only by sea and are waiting to be discovered by visitors. You can also visit the site where Homer is believed to be buried, in the northern part of the island. Ancient historian Pausanias mentions that Homer died on Ios, hit by an unknown sickness as he was traveling to Athens.
