Santorini is the southernmost island of the Cyclades archipelago in the center of the Aegean Sea. The island, originally circular with an inner lagoon, is volcanic and has a half-moon shape nowadays. Several parts of the island have disappeared in the sea thus creating a natural port. It has been calculated that an volcano eruption in 1627 BC caused enormous geological changes to the island and most probably destroyed the Minoic civilization on Crete by the tsunami that followed. In 1967 archeologists brought to the light a forgotten city, named Akrotiri, which was buried under the ashes of the eruption, very much like Pompei in Italy. The finds at Akrotiri could be the most significant discovery in resent archeology. The island is connected to Athens by air and sea. Its capital is Firà but its most enchanting villages are Oia and Imerovigli. The views and the sunsets here are truly unforgettable, while the deep blue sea offers itself for relaxing swims gazing up at the steep volcanic slopes of the island. Some of the best hotels and resorts are located in Santorini, making it a must visit!
RED BOX DAYS
When Kostas set up Redboxdays in 2003, he had one aim in mind. “I wanted to sell simple, stylish flowers, beautifully presented, to the Greek market. And I knew people would love it.”
